Provisional working title of the doctoral project: The Concept of Cultural-Religious Sensitivity Education for Denominational Religious Education as a Response to a Multicultural and Secularized Society – A Study on the Educational Understanding of Protestant Schools in South Korea

Abstract:
This study explores the challenges of religious education in Protestant Christian schools within a multicultural and secular society, focusing on how teachers perceive their educational reality. In-depth interviews were conducted with religious education teachers in Korean Christian schools, and the data were analyzed using grounded theory. The results show two main challenges: the tension between maintaining the identity of religious education and meeting the demand for neutrality in public education, and the difficulty teachers face in finding a clear educational direction within this tension. Based on these insights, the study suggests that teachers’ perspectives can provide a foundation for new approaches that respect cultural and religious diversity while preserving the identity of Christian education.
